Storytelling easy as ….. 1,2,3!
Well, I don’t know about you, but telling my business story was harder than just telling a “Story” to a friend. I’m no stranger to talking, after all I got in trouble for talking too much in elementary school. I had to stay after school in both 2nd and 3rd grade and write on the chalkboard, “I will not talk in class” 50 times!!!
Looking back, I think I just had a lot to say, and nobody was listening!
So then why, does somebody who loves to talk find Storytelling challenging?
Because telling your Company story has a purpose vs.
just telling a story.
This week I have been volunteering and attending StartUp Week San Diego and have heard some fantastic speakers, like Dave Franco who spoke about…STORYTELLING!
Here is a quick recap on Dave's talk.
The Story is made up off 3 parts:
Act 1 (10% of your story) – Exciting and Engaging. You want the audience soaking up your every word.
Act 2 (80% of your story, really the guts of it) – The Incident or a.k.a the journey.
This Act is all about the journey and the conflict.
You want to connect with the audience on an emotional level
which could be: Anger, Sadness, Happiness, or Shock
Example: An underdog where it seems an impossible situation to overcome.
Ask yourself, “Where do I want to take my audience on this journey?” or “What type of emotion am I trying to evoke?”
Act 3 (10% of your story) – Resolution- what the outcome was and your call to action!
I want to revamp my BRAND STORY and I think these easy to follow steps just might do the trick.
Do you have a book on Storytelling you would recommend?
